Get ready because the first day of school is almost here! Check out these amazing tips to make the transition smoother, allowing you to fully enjoy and create unforgettable memories!
It's time to begin establishing a consistent sleep schedule and routine! As a mother of two, my daily routine involves having dinner, taking baths, preparing clothes, shoes, and backpacks (filling water cups and packing snacks). You can also involve your children in preparing their lunch boxes. Afterwards, we engage in reading and writing homework, which helps us bond and wind down for bedtime. Since school hasn't started yet, reading a bedtime story or practicing their name can be a good alternative. I've set up two hooks on the wall for each child to hang their clothes and backpack, providing a designated place for these items and ensuring they know where everything belongs sets them up for success. As they become more proficient with these tasks, I continue to introduce new responsibilities. My oldest child, who is 7 years old, now follows an alarm clock routine, and I plan to include a shopping list for snacks, grooming items, and school supplies. Your routine doesn't have to mirror mine exactly; find what works best for your family!
Attend meet the teacher (at least one parent) that way everyone knows where to go on the first day, Please make sure they school knows how your child is getting home or to daycare! Take the supplies with you to meet the teacher so their backpacks are at a manageable size on the first day.
Jackets are on sale especially at a resell shop get them now and thank me later, I always get two big coats and two sweaters to last us the school winter.
Rain coats and boots but I did find a rain poncho works best as it folds up small.
Label Jackets, water bottles, lunch/snack boxes, sweaters, raincoats or umbrellas with first last name, grade and teacher’s name.
Expect delays the first two weeks with bus and car lines. Make sure you know where the bus stop is and make sure your child knows to only get off there! Systems are in place by transportations but it is better to have this reinsured with your child.
If this is your first year, medication that are a regular use like inhalers, forms must be signed by a physician make sure to get with the school nurse to see what forms are needed so that there is not interruptions.
During car trips, we practice reciting my cell phone number and our address out loud. Additionally, I engage in a 911 role-playing game where I act as an operator and prompt them to provide their address, which they then repeat back to me. This repetition is intended to instill the information in their memory so that it becomes second nature, which could prove crucial in emergency situations. I’ve done this with their full names and our full names (parents) as well.
Find out the days when your child has gym class so you can ensure they have tennis shoes either packed or worn.
It is crucial to prioritize open and effective communication with your child's teacher to ensure a successful academic journey for your child. By establishing a strong line of communication, you are not only fostering a collaborative relationship but also demonstrating your commitment to your child's education. Remember, both you and the teacher are part of a team with the shared objective of supporting your child's growth and development. Regular communication with the teacher allows you to stay informed about your child's progress, strengths, and areas for improvement. It also provides an opportunity to address any concerns or issues that may arise promptly. By working together, you can create a supportive and nurturing learning environment that promotes your child's academic success and overall well-being.
I wish you all the best of luck and for everyone to have a safe and fun school year!
